Beamish, The Living Museum of the North is spreading the joy this Christmas season by offering the chance for one lucky person or family in the North East to win a fantastic festive gift.

After a difficult time during the coronavirus pandemic, Beamish wants to lift spirits and is asking people to get in touch with who they think deserves the ultimate Beamish prize, which is worth over £200.

Beamish’s Random Act of Kindness is launching today (Sunday, 28th November) on Museum Shop Sunday, and all people have to do to go into is send an email to [email protected] with who they think deserves the gift and why.

The prize has been supported by over 15 local suppliers and includes a Family Unlimited Pass and a huge selection of the museum’s fantastic gifts, including Beamish jam, marmalade, honey, cheese, hot chocolate, cinder toffee, chocolate stars, fudge and more!

Matthew Henderson, Product Development Manager at Beamish, said: “We know the last two years have been tough for everyone, that’s why we want to offer the chance for one lucky person or family in the North East to win the ultimate Beamish prize, worth an amazing £225. 

“Not only does the Random Act of Kindness gift include a fantastic selection of Beamish products, including a Family Unlimited Pass and recently-launched bespoke Beamish items, but we’ll also be dropping the present off in costume at the winner’s address before Christmas. We will liaise with the person who nominated the winner so that when we deliver the gift it will be a complete surprise.

The Random Act of Kindness prize, which is worth £225, includes a Family Unlimited Pass for two adults and two children, Beamish tea, coffee, hot chocolate, jam, marmalade, Ginger Tipple, pickle, honey, piccalilli, Beamish Cheese, cold cream, lip salve, luxury soaps, a beeswax candle and cranberry and oats flavoured dog biscuits. 

Plus there’s a selection of sweet treats, including a shortbread barrel and fudge barrel, both featuring a travel poster-style scene of our 1900s Town, 1950s-inspired large 360g Dairy Milk chocolate bar, Jubilee Confectioners’ toffee flavoured snowball bon bons, Turkish delight, cinder toffee, sugar mice, denture sweets and other delicious delights, including fudge in flavours of clotted cream, Belgian chocolate, rhubarb and custard, and rum and raisin.

Chocolate treats include Jubilee Confectioners’ milk, white and dark chocolate bars, Christmas baubles, coins, stars, a tram chocolate lolly and horse head shaped chocolate lolly, in addition as a bicycle shaped chocolate bar. 

All people have to do to go into is email [email protected] with who they would like to nominate and why by Sunday, 12th December 2021. The person nominating must also provide their contact details. We will liaise with the person that nominated the winner to surprise the winner by dropping their prize off in costume at the winner’s address. Only one nomination per email address. Delivery address must be within 35 miles of the museum.

Museum Shop Sunday calls on people to sustain cultural attractions by their online shops. It is led by the Association for Cultural Enterprises, with the Museum Store Association, based in Washington DC, and the Museum Shops Association of Australia and New Zealand. 

in addition as making their own products, Beamish works with many local suppliers to create bespoke Beamish items. The prizes included in the Random Act of Kindness gift have been very kindly donated by various local businesses.

Christmas at Beamish Visits 2021

Visit the museum for Christmas at Beamish daytimes from 27th November to 24th December 2021 and enjoy truly traditional celebrations.

Take part in festive fun and see your favourite parts of Beamish beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. Visit Father Christmas (pre-booked Grotto ticket basic, unprotected to availability), savour the aroma of delicious homemade goods cooking on the range and listen to merry music.

Start your own special family traditions and tick off important Christmas to-dos before the big day. As with all daytime events, visitors can use their Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to enjoy Christmas at Beamish.

in addition as a valid pass/membership, all visitors aged five and over need a pre-booked entry timeslot. Timeslots for visits up to 24th December are obtainable to book online now, visit www.beamish.org.uk. Grotto tickets must be pre-booked online when booking timeslots, these are obtainable to book now (unprotected to availability).

Beamish has a range of COVID-19 obtain health and hygiene measures in place across the museum, with the safety of visitors, staff and volunteers as the top priority and in line with industry best practice and guidance issued by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions. These include pre-booked timeslot entry tickets, use of confront masks, reduced capacity to manage the number of visitors and allow space, enhanced cleaning, hand sanitiser stations, and contactless card payments. The museum has been awarded the “We’re Good To Go” standard.

The museum is continuing to follow government and public health COVID-19 safety guidance and reserves the right to alter events, activities, facilities, operations and opening times without prior notice.

Beamish is open 10am to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday (closed Mondays and Tuesdays), from 1st November to 17th December 2021 (inclusive).
